1.      CRJ Leadership and Management Certificate

Chris McFarlin stated that the Criminal Justice Advisory Committee feels this certificate will better prepare entry-level supervisors for supervisory positions. This certificate is 18 credit hours and is composed of three Criminal Justice courses and three Management courses, which all can be used towards the CRJ degree.
The effective term will be Fall 2016.  Chris will provide Sarah with justification, which she will forward to Galen for the November 30th meeting.
The Committee voted to approve the certificate.
2.      SOC 233 and PSC 225 (new courses)
SOC 233 (Social Issues in Sport) is a Social Science elective for Associate in Arts and Associate in Science majors. The course is transferable to Clemson as an elective course. There are no prerequisites required and will be offered as a lecture-only course.  This course is currently not in the CAC and will be sent to the state for approval.  The effective term is Fall 2016.
PSC 225 (Political Parties, Campaigns, and Elections) is also a Social Science elective for Associate in Arts and Associate in Science majors.  This course is transferable to Clemson and USC as an elective course.  There are no prerequisites required and will be offered as a lecture-only course.  The course is currently not in the CAC and will also have to go before the state for approval.  The effective term is Fall 2016.

The Committee voted to approve both new courses.

3.       Pre-Pharmacy Program Change

Donna Palmer stated that Dr. Barnes would like to add AHS 180 (Health Careers Preparation)  to the Pre-Pharmacy program and eliminate PHM 101 (Introduction to Pharmacy) from the program curriculum.  There is no prerequisite to this course and the effective term is Fall 2016.  This course will be specific to Pre-Pharmacy students.

Donna will meet with Christy Lawless to add the special restriction.  The Committee voted to approve the AHS 180 new course.
The Committee suggested renaming “First Summer Semester” to “Third Semester” and rename the proceeding semesters accordingly.  It was also suggested to switch ENG 101 to the first semester (currently listed in the second semester) due to ENG 101 being a prerequisite to PSY 201 and move MAT 130 to the second semester.  The Committee voted to approve the Pre-Pharmacy program change.

4.      MLT 130 Prerequisite Change and Medical Laboratory Program Change

Medical Lab Technology is now required by NAACLS (the Medical Lab Technology accreditation) to include CHM 105 into the curriculum.  The program would like to replace BIO 101 with BIO 105.  They would also like to add CHM 105 and make it a prerequisite to MLT 130.
The Committee noted that there will need to be justification for the change in credit hours.  There will need to send the justification to Sarah so the program configuration can be changed in WIDS.

The Committee suggested tabling the changes until the January 2016 meeting.

5.       Extended Duty Dental Assisting Program Change

The advisory committee suggested changing from BIO 105 to AHS 104, which has physiology and is a good stepping stone to DAT 112.  AHS 104 will need to be a prerequisite to DAT 112.  The Committee suggested moving ENG 155, PSY 103, and MAT 155 to the first semester, along with AHS 104.

The Committee suggested tabling the changes until the January 2016 meeting.

6.       IDS 210 – Special Topics for Honors

Dr. Wheeler recently spoke with John concerning the IDS 210 course.  There are currently only six students interested in the course.  This course would be set as a platform for other honors courses.  This course would transfer to Clemson as an elective.  The Spring 2016 topic is “Sociology in Sports”.

The Committee voted to not approve the IDS 210 course.

The meeting adjourned at 2:00 p.m.
