1.    Minutes

The minutes of the September 16, 2013 meeting were approved unanimously.  John Woodson requested the minutes be placed on eTC.

2.    Discussion of Deadlines

John Woodson reminded everyone of the deadlines for curriculum changes.  Any changed needed for Spring 2014 will need to be approved by Galen DeHay by October 14, 2013, due to online registration opening for students.

All changes starting with Summer 2014 need to be sent to John and Student Records by November 4, 2013.  The Curriculum Committee deadline is November 12, 2013.  The deadline to Galen DeHay is November 26, 2013.

3.    New Charter for Committee

John feels that the related outcomes are more about accountability than punishment.  He strongly feels that sharing information and learning from one another is beneficial. He would like for everyone to look over the proposed charter and give feedback.

Once the new WIDS is in place, Committee members will be able to review items before the meeting.  Currently the process is cumbersome, but will simplify once everything is in one place.

Sarah Shumpert noted that the new process will begin in January 2014. Currently, Microsoft Word templates are used for outcome assessments.  Margaret noted that timing is critical.  In January, the new cycle will begin. In order to get three cycles in before the next reaffirmation, there will be two semesters per cycle.

            Cycle 1 – Spring 2014 and Summer 2014

            Cycle 2 – Fall 2014 and Spring 2015

            Cycle 3 – Summer 2015 and Fall 2015

In order to develop outcomes in WIDS, a Program Assessment Technique (PAT) will need to be developed.  For every outcome, there will need to be a PAT.  The criteria will be used to develop a rubric.

The second portion of the process is to create a plan over the three cycles.  Two things need to be determined before the end of the semester:

1.    Which outcomes will be measured in each cycle?

2.    Which courses are going to be measured?

Faculty will need to set up a PAT for each of the outcomes within their program.  Also, an assessment plan will need to be completed for the next three cycles.

Margaret and Sarah want to partner with the Committee to help with training.  John suggested all faculty on the Committee participate in the training.  John Price will work with Tracy Ethridge; Suzanne Ellenberger will work with John Woodson; and Janet Fuller will work with Danny Stovall during the training.  Sarah asked for the faculty to help spread information about the process.  She also would like the faculty on the Committee to help with training of other faculty, if possible.
