Academic Calendar
• 22nd version of Academic Calendar
Considerations was reviewed by Academic Calendar Committee
• Academic Calendar is approved by
Academic Leadership Team
• The final exam schedule is created
by subgroup of the Academic Calendar Committee which consists of Matthew Anzur,
Karen Culp-Linscott
Parts-of-Term
• Learning Beyond Campus will be on
Summer 2017 calendar
Drop and Add Periods
• Part of terms outside of normal
terms will use percentage to calculate drop and add and rounded up
Exams
• Requested that “nor students have
an exam the day following the last day of class” be changed
• Students do have ability to request
exam be moved if there is a conflict
• Meg Allan suggested “nor students…”
line be changed to “to the extent possible”
• Session B and C will have 1 exam
day
Withdrawals
• Matthew Anzur recommended “(i.e.,
Spring Break)” be changed to “(e.g. Spring Break)”
Sufficient Time
• 3 full business days added
• 9am is counted as Day 1 for grades
• Blackboard is not being utilized as
often because it is not always set up in time for an instructor to fully build
class
• IT plans maintenance around
academic calendar, so when planning calendar be mindful of their needs
• Adequate time differs between each
division
Deadlines
• Friday deadlines will be avoided
when possible because students and other guests are not aware we close at 2pm
• If classes begin on Monday, there
is no movement on drop date being on a Friday
• Times are no longer listed on
calendar for 6:30pm deadlines
• Maintenance goes down at 11:59pm
and comes back up at approximately 12:01am
Breaks
• Kristen believes Clemson’s academic
calendar is currently 3 years out
Faculty/Staff Development Day
• “This day will not coincide with a
scheduled no class/college closed day” should be kept but reworded
• Every even year we have to be
closed make it a professional development day.
• Sharon suggested revision that was
agreed on – “Given that the state says we are closed on election day, we will recognize that as a
professional development day”
Procedure 8-3-101.1
• Not a new practice but has been
recently added to Academic Calendar Considerations
Holiday Schedules
• Vice President of Human Resources
should be changed to Assistant Vice President of Human Resources in first
bullet
• Sharon Colcolough will submit holiday schedules for the College
• Dr. Booth would like academic
calendar published at least 1 year in advance
• Need to start looking at full
academic year
Matriculation Dates
• No changes have been made
Other concerns
• Internal deadlines be added to
considerations since we have been asked for 1 year in advance publishing
• Handouts given out before meeting
• Considerations need to be sent back
to Academic Leadership Team because of changes
• Next Academic Leadership Team
meeting is January 10th
• Galen Dehay will be at next
Calendar Committee meeting
• Next Calendar Committee meeting
will be some time after Thanksgiving break
• Jenell will send minutes out no
later than 2-3 days after meeting
• Need to approve Fall 2017 calendar
soon, because Fall 2017 schedule is being built
